You know the type. They use a spreadsheet to weigh and make decisions; studying and observing every possible angle. They are exacting and deliberate with never a decision made in haste. I envy their capacity.
My dad is an engineer. He gets paid to know the details. Recently, it was a spreadsheet and graph that convinced him make that dreaded appointment with the doctor to have his heart checked. Something seemed inconsistent. (for the record, he’s doing great)
Can you image how messy the world would be like without our spreadsheet friends?
This morning I met with Jake Smilie. He and Jocelyn are detail mavins. This exacting personality is what makes Jake an incredible drummer and Jocelyn a virtual database of Cabarrus County knowledge.
As we began to eat our bagel, Jake unleashed an arsenal of questions about our upcoming move: "where are we gonna park the trailer?", "who is going to pull the trailer?", "are we going to get to practice setting up before October 7th?", "what is the stage setup going to look like?" It wasn’t long before I began swimming in a pool of unanswered questions.
The answer "I don’t know" seemed incomplete, as if the decision was made without completely thinking through every detail…which, honestly, it was. To this day, I still don’t know who is going to pull the trailer. I’m honestly more concerned about how we’re going to pay for it.
Last week, Stephanie Perkins volunteered to be the coordinator for our entire move. Stephanie is a spreadsheet person. She thrives on making sure that every detail is covered. And that’s what we need: Kinetic Church needs people of every talent and mindset to step up to the plate and swing for the fences. (my official Barry Bonds parallel)
We need more people on our Korban Team who will empower people to create an amazing worship environment every Sunday morning. We need 11 more people to help us create a brand new 4’s-5’s classroom to meet the needs for our growing Children’s ministry. And we need more people to serve in our Frontline ministry and become the welcoming face of Kinetic at our new location.
The wave is coming…even if I still don’t know who’s going to pull the trailer.
