I’m not quite sure what to say today. After this morning, I am simply speechless.
Today, hands down, was the most amazing day in our church’s short history!
At 2:00 AM this morning, we had a team of guys show up at the Starlight Cinema to help move in a 575 gallon baptistry into our movie theater. The baptistry arrived on Brian Parrish’s flatbed trailer and took several guys to just maneuver. After removing the door’s hinges to get this monster through the doorway, the baptistry was set in place.
It was at that moment that I got pretty nervous and honestly somewhat skeptical about what God might do with this pool of water. Apparently, I was not alone in my skepticism. My son, Noah, had talked about baptism earlier in the week, but his upcoming baptism was the only one of which I was aware.
After a short nap, my 6:30 AM Sunday morning ritual began. And so did Satan’s attacks. Basically, if it could go wrong, it did today. (down to my wife’s car refusing to start) But God had a plan…and God’s plans always prevail.
As I began my message, I honestly wasn’t sure if Noah was really going to be baptized. I mean, I really wanted baptism to be his decision. So, we made an arrangement: if he wanted to choose baptism, he was to come forward after I entered the baptistry water. If he changed his mind, he was to stay seated and I would would give an alternate ending to my sermon.
I finished my talk. I entered the water. Noah didn’t move. So, I began my alternate ending. (with great fear and trembling) Finally, Noah came forward and ushered in over 20 minutes of baptisms! What an amazing moment!
I’ll post a count when I have a final number, but in reality, it would only take one baptism to completely juice me!
Next week, we will offer baptisms during our service one more time. Our church is amazing! I am so pumped about what God is doing!
I guess this is a pretty long post for someone who’s speechless!
