I thought that it definitely has a pointed message for the church. Unfortunately, the message may hit too close to home.
What do you think?
Is there any direct application for Kinetic Church?

Rarely do we see the full impact of our choices. And we assume that influence is limited by what we know and experience.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Here’s the reality: our choices today have the potential to impact hundreds of thousands of people.

Listen, if you believe that I’m just being dramatic and overstating my case with a ridiculous amount of hyperbole, then perhaps you have not grasped the depth of your impact.

Here’s why this concept is so important: when you talk to just ONE person about Jesus, hundreds of lives are at stake. ONE conversation, ONE invitation could change hundreds of lives…Seriously!

It’s what we call the domino effect: by influencing ONE life, you impact countless others. It’s the law of cause and effect. (just like dominos)

Your small group could literally impact thousands of lives by simply taking on the challenge of investing in ONE person in the next two weeks by inviting them to church on October 26? This small act has the potential of changing the world…and I’m not kidding.

Check out this video from this past Sunday, and you’ll see what I mean:

Have you ever noticed that children are born believing that they can make a difference? There’s something inside each of us that rejects the idea that we are powerless. Instead we just want to believe that ONE person really could do something significant and accomplish something that matters.

That’s why, as a child, we pretended to have super powers or bionic strength. It’s why we imagined ourselves as teachers, parents and doctors. Those roles are significant. And for one moment, at least in our imagination, we had significance. Our lives meant something.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for us to realize that we are not the person we imagined. And though we strive for lives of significance, we always seem to fall short. Sometimes it feels as if we are destined for insignificance. We begin to think that maybe significance was meant for the talented or the lucky. Maybe it’s reserved for groups of people committed to a great cause. But not us.

We almost wish that we could be the first picked on God’s team to change the world. For God to pass up the throngs of other possibilities and call our name instead. Wouldn’t it be amazing to be the one called by God to the most important task at hand and to be placed in a job of critical importance? Now, that is significance!

Here’s the funny thing: that’s exactly what God has done. With no backup plan in mind, God called you to the critical task of telling other people about Jesus. God is not give this assignment to an organization, but to you. (let those words sink in for a moment…God called you)

There could be nothing more significant that having a small piece of the action as God transforms the lives of everyday people. There’s nothing more critical, nothing more significant.

The moment you begin to surrender your life to the infinite God is the moment that you gain significance.

The reality is that ONE person can make a difference.

Tonight, I had a headache. Anne was at a neighborhood bunco party at it was my job to get the kids bathed and in bed. After getting everybody to bed, I was finally able to sit down to work on my computer.

At about 10:00 PM, there was a knock at the door. I had Anne’s housekey, so I knew that it was her.

I opened the door to let her in and was totally shocked to see what had just happened to our house. We had been forked! On top of that, there were a ton of encouraging notes to us. It was the strangest mix of shock, awe and gratitude.

I’m gonna wait until morning to de-fork the yard. I’d like to see what the Home Owners Association has to say about this one.

If you forked me…thank you. This was an amazingly creative way to love us!

Here are a few pics from this raid of kindness:

Okay people, let’s talk recruiting!

FACT: a church who can’t recruit won’t grow. I can’t underscore how big of a deal this is! A leader’s ability to effectively recruit is one of the biggest determining factors in measuring the success of that leader. Think about it: a leader isn’t a leader unless he is able to convince people to follow. In other words, your leadership chops are defined by your ability to assemble and lead a team toward greatness.

Here’s a foundational lesson that I’ve learned about recruiting: As a leader, you can either recruit from a place of need or recruit from a place of vision. (Recruiting from vision is always better.)

RECRUITING FROM A PLACE OF NEED
Whenever you’re recruiting from a place of need, you’re only recruiting because you have to. You have holes to fill and expectations to meet. Face it, you’re desperate. If you don’t get volunteers, you’re screwed. Recruiting from a place of need is about survival, nothing more nothing less. As a result, you become needy, ingratiating and ineffective.

Here are some phrases you might use on that recruitment phone call if you’re recruiting from a place of need.

“This job only demands once a month commitment. (twice a month, etc)”

“If you have to miss a week of serving, it’s really no big deal…we have subs!”

“I was going though the phone directory and saw your name.”

“I figured, you’re not doing anything, so I thought I would ask you to help.”

“I just need four more people to help out and I figured you could be one of them”

“I still have a ton of slots to fill. Do you know anybody else who might be willing to volunteer?”

“It’s not really that bad of a job and it it only lasts an hour. Heck, you could survive anything for an hour, right?”

“The job is REALLY EASY…anybody could do it.”

Mark my words: whenever you recruit from a place of need, you will become frustrated and ineffective. Nobody wants to give their life to simply fill slots.

RECRUITING FROM A PLACE OF VISION
Whenever you recruit from a place of vision, you recruit because the vision demands it. You intrinsically know that the vitality of your mission requires the best and brightest be assembled to do the work. Recruiting from a place of vision is not about survival, but about winning and becoming the best in the world.

Picture a winning NCAA recruiter who is willing to drive to a small town in Montana to convince a skillful player to join their team for the upcoming season. That’s what it looks like to recruit from vision.

Seriously, think about some of the recruiting lines that Jesus used. His demands where high and He didn’t flinch when He called people to a high commitment of living. The mission demanded it.

Matthew 16:24 - Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Luke 14:26 - If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.

Matthew 8:19-21 - Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

Matthew 19:21 - Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Matthew 4:18-22 - Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Okay, back to you. Here are a few vision-driven phrases if you’re recruiting from a place of vision.

“I think you would be perfect to complete our team.”

“We can’t do this without you.”

“When I realized what we were doing, I knew that you would be the first person I had to call.”

“Our team is going to become the best in the world and we need you to join us.”

“I’ve talked with our team, and everybody wants you.”

“We need someone of with your skills to make this work.”

“This position is vital, and I trust you to make it happen.”

“This is not a job that anybody could do.”

“This job is probably going to demand a lot.”

Remember, people are always willing to give their lives to something that has meaning. Whenever you recruit from a place of vision, you will discover an intangible momentum and excitement that comes from assembling a dream team of volunteers to change the world. And, trust me, people will be excited to join you.

Today has been a crazy ride for the United States market. Today, we experienced the largest single day drop DOW JONES history. (ending at -777.68) Clearly, these are scary times.

I would love to give you a informed and intellectual response to the volatility of today’s events, But unfortunately, they don’t teach economics in Seminary.

Instead, I’ll give you what I know.

Thus says the Lord, “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the Lord…but blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord.”
Jer. 17:5, 7

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?
Psalm 56:3, 4

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways ackinowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
Proverbs 3:5-7

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, “What will we eat?” or “What will we drink?” or “What will we wear for clothing?” For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But see first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Matthew 6:30-33
