• Feel the Burn-I Am Responsible

Have you ever noticed how often we like to pass the blame? Nobody likes to be responsible when everything goes wrong. Late for an appointment…traffic was bad. Overslept…the alarm clock didn’t go off. Alone…nobody talks to me.

Always passing blame and never talking responsibility.

Have you noticed how we also like to play the blame game spiritually. We can think of a million reasons why we aren’t growing faster, can’t we? Think about some of the excuses we use. Here are a few: “I’ve been pretty busy at work lately”, “I have a big project due next week”, “my church isn’t ‘deep enough’ for me” or “nobody talks to me at church anymore.”

In the parable of the sower, Jesus identifies three variables that affect growth: the farmer, the seed and the soil. Unfortunately, Jesus only blames one of the variables for stunted growth: the soil.

The soil’s fertility is our job; our responsibility. Granted, God likes to plow the soil of our heart in an attempt to make it more fertility. But in the end, Jesus blames the soil for the plants lack of growth.

Here my mind map from today’s talk:
