Last week, Jenny Weem’s sister, Jane, came forward to give her life to Christ. It was one of the most exciting times in the life of our church. Today, I baptized her.
Jane had a special baptism request. She wanted to be baptized just like Jesus; in a lake or stream. "Fair enough," I thought. It wasn’t until I tried to uncover the perfect location that I began realized the gravity of her request. You have no idea how difficult it is to find a clean lake for a baptism near the University area. Sure, there are a lot of the local parks with bodies of water, but none with a reputation for cleanliness.
Finally, we agree upon Lake Norman State Park (exit 42 off I-77). It was an hour away, but well worth the drive for a baptism. (this is why I love being the lead minister) When we finally arrived at the Lake Norman beach and were greeted by over 200 sunbathers and swimmers; all stirring up the mud on the water’s floor.Just as we were about to pray, there was a HUGE clap of thunder rejoicing in the moment. It scared the crap out of me! I knew that it was only a matter of seconds before the lifeguard would come to evacuate the water, so we blitzed the water for the fastest baptism service ever. What a memory.
Jane lives in Lexington, Kentucky and will be attending Crossroad Christian Church. Please, pray that she connects to a small group that will love and care about her.
