Baptism of Jane

The Church / August 5, 2007

Last week, Jenny Weem’s sister, Jane, came forward to give her life to Christ. It was one of the most exciting times in the life of our church. Today, I baptized her.

Jane had a special baptism request. She wanted to be baptized just like Jesus; in a lake or stream. "Fair enough," I thought.  It wasn’t until I tried to uncover the perfect location that I began realized the gravity of her request. You have no idea how difficult it is to find a clean lake for a baptism near the University area. Sure, there are a lot of the local parks with bodies of water, but none with a reputation for cleanliness.

Finally, we agree upon Lake Norman State Park (exit 42 off I-77).  It was an hour away, but well worth the drive for a baptism. (this is why I love being the lead minister) When we finally arrived at the Lake Norman beach and were greeted by over 200 sunbathers and swimmers; all stirring up the mud on the water’s floor.

Just as we were about to pray, there was a HUGE clap of thunder rejoicing in the moment. It scared the crap out of me! I knew that it was only a matter of seconds before the lifeguard would come to evacuate the water, so we blitzed the water for the fastest baptism service ever.  What a memory.

Jane lives in Lexington, Kentucky and will be attending Crossroad Christian Church.  Please, pray that she connects to a small group that will love and care about her.
